New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu emphasized on Friday that equitable delimitation is vital for safeguarding the rights of the state, noting that what began as Tamil Nadu’s initiative has evolved into a nationwide campaign.

In a video message shared on social media, CM Stalin remarked ahead of the inaugural Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting on Saturday (March 22) with Chief Ministers and leaders from the Opposition.

He articulated that fair delimitation is essential, not merely for the allocation of MPs, but for the preservation of the state’s rights.

In his post on X, he declared that this day will mark a significant milestone for Indian federalism and extended a warm welcome to leaders from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Punjab who will be attending the Joint Action Committee meeting focused on delimitation.

Referring to the gathering as a meeting for equitable delimitation, CM Stalin asserted that the all-party assembly on March 5 represented a historic moment when 58 registered political parties from Tamil Nadu united for a common purpose.

"This overwhelming consensus symbolizes Tamil Nadu’s steadfast commitment to democracy and justice," he stated.

CM Stalin noted that following this meeting, his party's MPs and Ministers have been reaching out to other party leaders and Chief Ministers.

"Leveraging this historic unity, our MPs and Ministers have actively communicated with leaders from other affected states, fortifying our collective determination. What started as Tamil Nadu’s initiative has now blossomed into a national movement, with states across India joining forces to demand fair representation."

He described this as a pivotal moment in their shared journey. "This is more than just a meeting -- it signifies the onset of a movement that will influence the future of our nation. Together, we will realize fair delimitation," he expressed.

The meeting is perceived as a significant demonstration of strength by the Opposition parties against the BJP.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu will clarify how Southern states could potentially lose political representation in the Lok Sabha if delimitation is conducted exclusively based on population metrics.

Delimitation is scheduled for 2026.

The Central Government, however, has dismissed these concerns and reassured that there will be no reduction in seats.

In February, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during an event in Coimbatore, provided assurances from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also indicated that the distribution of seats among states would "naturally increase."
