Chennai, March 24 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, declared on Monday that a group of Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advocate for a fair and transparent delimitation process.

During a session in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, CM Stalin underscored the necessity for the delimitation exercise to protect the political representation and democratic rights of Tamil Nadu and other states that could be negatively impacted if the process is based on the 2026 population census.

He highlighted that Tamil Nadu's proactive approach has resonated across the nation.

Various leaders, including the Chief Ministers of Kerala, Telangana, and Punjab, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, and the Leader of Opposition in Odisha (via video conference), engaged in recent deliberations on this matter.

CM Stalin elaborated on the outcomes of the Joint Action Council (JAC) meeting held on Saturday, where a resolution was passed calling for the delimitation process to be executed with transparency and in consultation with the states.

The resolution also requested an extension of the current freeze on delimitation by an additional 25 years. He emphasized that states that have successfully implemented population control measures should not be penalized for their initiatives.

CM Stalin proposed the introduction of constitutional amendments in Parliament, complemented by resolutions from respective State Assemblies, to guarantee fair representation for all.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that JAC participants intend to formally approach the Prime Minister during the upcoming Parliament session.

They aim to submit a letter urging him to uphold federalism and protect the democratic rights and political representation of all states.

“To further the spirit of our slogan ‘Tamil Nadu will protest and win,’ and to defend the rights of states while ensuring a just delimitation process, the state government is preparing to meet the Prime Minister together with MPs from all political parties in Tamil Nadu represented in Parliament,” CM Stalin stated.

He concluded by expressing appreciation to all political factions, including the principal Opposition party AIADMK, for their involvement in the all-party meeting and JAC discussions.

“On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, I extend my gratitude to all political parties that united on this critical issue,” he added.
