Kannur, Dec 11 (NationPress) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan adopted a fierce stance as the second and final phase of local body elections commenced, confidently predicting a significant victory for the Left Front. He claimed that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is experiencing a clear surge of public support throughout the state.
After casting his vote at the Cherikkal Junior Basic School in Kattilapeedika, the Chief Minister informed reporters that indications from the ground hinted at a broad consolidation of support for the LDF, even in areas typically loyal to the United Democratic Front (UDF).
“In various UDF strongholds, the LDF is being received positively. The overall trend is evidently in our favor,” CM Vijayan noted, emphasizing that the Left approached the elections with robust confidence right from the beginning.
The Chief Minister dismissed the opposition’s efforts to leverage the Sabarimala gold smuggling case during the campaign, asserting that the decisive actions taken regarding the issue had enhanced public confidence in the government.
“Believers themselves understand that such resolute actions would not have been undertaken under any other administration. Their allegiance remains steadfast with the government,” he expressed.
CM Vijayan accused both the Congress and BJP of attempting to manipulate the situation for electoral gain, commenting that the two parties seemed to be “traveling in the same cart.”
Regarding the rape allegation against Youth Congress leader Rahul Mamkootathil, Pinarayi sharply criticized state Congress president Sunny Joseph for suggesting the complaint was “well-drafted.”
He stated such remarks belittled the concerns of victims. “Young women fear that telling the truth could jeopardize their safety. The threats they recount are serious. Further revelations may emerge. Society will not condone attempts to justify sexual offenders,” he stated.
The Chief Minister also condemned the UDF for associating with Jamaat-e-Islami for electoral advantages, noting that the group has been rejected by the broader Muslim community.
“The LDF is garnering enthusiastic support across all demographics,” he added.
With Thursday’s voting in seven northern districts concluding the two-phase process, results will be available on Saturday, setting the stage for the grand finale—the Assembly elections slated for next year.
