Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 24 (NationPress) Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared a compensation of Rs 30 lakh for the family of Ram Narayan, a migrant laborer from Chhattisgarh, who tragically lost his life due to mob violence at Attappallam in Walayar, Palakkad district.

This announcement was made following the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by CM Vijayan.

According to official sources, immediate assistance of Rs 5 lakh each will be provided to Ram Narayan's mother and wife, while Rs 20 lakh will be allocated for his children to secure their future financially.

The funds will be sourced from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

The state has also arranged to airlift the deceased's body back to his home state.

In response to the lynching, CM Vijayan promised justice for the grieving family, asserting that stringent actions would be taken against the perpetrators.

A special investigation team, led by the Palakkad Superintendent of Police, is currently looking into the case, examining all facets of the incident and ensuring legal proceedings commence swiftly.

Describing the lynching as intolerable, he pointed out that such incidents tarnish Kerala's reputation as a progressive society and emphasized the necessity for increased vigilance to avert future occurrences.

“Taking the law into one’s own hands will not be tolerated,” he remarked.

The severity of the crime became evident from the remand report, which revealed that the accused had assaulted Ram Narayan with evident intent to kill, subjecting him to hours of brutal violence.

Medical documentation revealed more than 40 injuries on his body, including severe head trauma, extensive bleeding, and multiple serious wounds.

Investigators reported that heavy sticks were utilized in the attack, with injury patterns indicating that the victim was thrown to the ground, repeatedly kicked, and dragged. X-ray results confirmed that he was stomped on his face and back, signifying prolonged torture rather than a singular assault.

Furthermore, the report indicated that individuals attempting to intervene were met with threats and driven away.

Seven individuals, all with prior criminal records, have been apprehended.
