New Delhi, Jan 2 (NationPress) On Friday, the government announced that there has been a notable increase in coal production and dispatches from both captive and commercial mines during December. The total coal output reached 19.48 million tonnes (MT) for the month, while dispatches were at 18.02 MT.

This marks a year-on-year growth of 5.75 percent in production compared to the same month last year.

In the third quarter (Q3) of FY 2025-26, cumulative production from both Captive and Commercial mines totaled 54.14 million tonnes (MT), with dispatches recorded at 50.61 MT.

This quarter exhibited a year-on-year growth of 5.35 percent in production, demonstrating the sector's operational momentum, as stated by the Ministry of Coal.

For the financial year 2025-26 up to December, the sector has shown a solid performance, with coal production increasing by 9.72 percent year-on-year, and dispatches climbing by 6.98 percent compared to the same period last fiscal.

“These positive trends signify enhanced operational efficiency and better utilization of mining capacity across the sector. The Ministry credits this improved performance to a series of strategic policy initiatives, meticulous monitoring, and ongoing support to stakeholders,” it noted.

These initiatives have been crucial in speeding up operational approvals and expanding production capabilities, significantly contributing to the rise in coal output and dispatches.

The ministry is focused on creating a stable and performance-oriented environment for both captive and commercial coal mining.

Through persistent policy facilitation, thorough performance monitoring, and coordinated engagement with stakeholders, the Ministry aims to ensure reliable coal supply, support uninterrupted operations across essential sectors, and meet the increasing energy demands of the country, thus contributing to the long-term national goal of achieving a Viksit Bharat 2047.
