Key Takeaways
Gwalior/Pune, Jan 10 (NationPress) The National Cadet Corps (NCC) cycling expedition team from Maharashtra, which is journeying from Pune to New Delhi under the banner of 'Shaurya Ke Kadam, Kranti Ki Aur' (Steps of Valour, Towards Revolution), arrived in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on Friday.
This 20-member team, headed by Brigadier Sachin Gawali, Group Commander of the Amravati Group, received a heartfelt welcome from the 15th Madhya Pradesh Battalion NCC at Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Agriculture University.
The expedition retraces the route taken by Peshwa Bajirao I to foster values of discipline, nationalism, fitness, and social responsibility. The team engaged with local youth, Army officials, and other NCC cadets, discussing the significance of their journey from Pune to New Delhi.
This initiative is part of the 'NCC PM Rally -2026' cycling campaign, which commenced from the historic Delhi Darwaza at Shaniwarwada in Pune on December 24.
Inspired by the legendary Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I, who led a significant military expedition from Pune to Delhi, this campaign reflects not just physical endurance but also a reminder of India’s rich history. “Peshwa Bajirao I took this path to signal a revolution for freedom, teaching us about national unity, civic responsibility, and physical fitness,” remarked Junior Under Officer Rohan in an interview with IANS upon their arrival in Gwalior.
Feeling honored to be part of this cycling expedition, Rohan noted that such opportunities are rare for cadets. “In preparation for this journey, we received training for three months. Brigadier Sachin Gawali motivated us to realize this vision,” he added.
The cycling team is traversing a path similar to that of Peshwa Bajirao I through Malwa and Bundelkhand, covering 1,680 km in 21 days to raise awareness about this iconic warrior.
Throughout their journey, the team will pass through five states: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and will arrive in Delhi on January 16, 2026, to partake in the Prime Minister Rally.
