Combat Crime and Drug Abuse, Ensure Welfare Initiatives Reach Citizens: Karnataka CM Urges Officials

Bengaluru, Jan 1 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday urged the state's bureaucrats and civil servants to ensure that the advantages of the welfare initiatives are accessible to all eligible individuals and to take action against crime and drug-related problems.
During a New Year meeting with senior IAS and IPS officers at the Vidhana Soudha, he instructed them to enhance their efforts in strengthening the state's economic capabilities, tackling regional disparities, and addressing social injustices.
"We have launched five guarantees aimed at promoting equality and enhancing purchasing power. These guarantees enable funds to reach the people directly, eliminating middlemen. It is now your duty to make certain these advantages are effectively delivered to the populace," he emphasized.
"The youth represent the future of our community and are our most significant asset. IPS officers must rise to the challenge of safeguarding their future. Work diligently to combat drug abuse among young people. As technology and scientific progress continue to evolve, ensure they are harnessed to create a better future rather than facilitate criminal activities," the CM advised.
The Chief Minister stated, "Social and economic freedom must be guaranteed for all societal segments. Without it, political freedom becomes meaningless."
He highlighted that Rs 35,000 crore has been allocated for the development of the Kalyana Karnataka region.
Additionally, he mentioned the establishment of a committee led by economist Govind Rao to investigate whether the regional disparities identified in the Nanjundappa Committee Report have been addressed.
"During the Belagavi Assembly session, we discussed why the inequalities in North Karnataka persist. We are treating this matter with utmost seriousness, and I encourage you to do the same. Strive to eliminate regional disparities with complete dedication," he said.
The CM refuted claims regarding inadequate funds for development, labeling them as false.
He also accused the previous administration of financial mismanagement, including outstanding bills amounting to Rs 39,000 crore.
The Karnataka government is offering free transportation for women, free electricity up to 200 units, a Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for women heads of households, 10 kilos of rice for each member of families with BPL cards, and scholarships for recent graduates and diploma holders for two years. However, the opposition alleges that the Rs 2,000 allowance is not reaching beneficiaries and that the Congress government has failed to deliver the 10 kilos of rice to those entitled.
