Mumbai, Aug 5 (NationPress) - The Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has instructed the administration to establish a committee at the government level aimed at devising a lasting solution for the inclusion of additional screenings for Marathi films in multiplexes.
The designated committee is expected to present its findings to the government within a timeframe of one and a half months, with the state government's responsibility being to ensure the continued survival of Marathi cinema.
During a meeting that included producers, distributors of Marathi films, and representatives from various cine employee organizations, Shinde addressed multiple concerns such as the insufficient number of screens dedicated to Marathi films in multiplexes, the unwarranted removal of films from theaters within three days without prior notification, the collection of a week's fee without returning the leftover amount, the persistent requests for censor approval for Marathi films that have been ignored by the Censor Board, and the need for timely adjustments or cancellations of showtimes for these films.
Shinde attentively considered the perspectives of producers, distributors, multiplex owners, and other stakeholders.
He emphasized that the government's policy is to foster the growth of Marathi cinema, asserting that the survival of Marathi filmmakers is essential for the industry's brighter future.
Furthermore, it was resolved to form a committee dedicated to implementing permanent solutions regarding these issues.
“The committee will be led by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department and will include the Principal Secretary for Appeal and Security, Principal Secretary for Urban Development 2, Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, Secretary of Transport, along with producers of Marathi films, distributors, multiplex owners, Film City officials, and representatives from the Film Corporation and Producers Corporation,” he elaborated.
The committee's report will be delivered to the government within the next one and a half months, after which a definitive decision will be made on this matter.
