Mumbai, Jan 28 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance the Marathi film sector, the Maharashtra government has announced plans for an internationally recognized Marathi Film Festival this year, as stated by Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar on Tuesday.
This initiative arises from the understanding that although the State Marathi Film Award ceremony has been held for over 60 years, there has yet to be an officially sanctioned government film festival dedicated to Marathi cinema. Numerous organizations conduct various international film festivals throughout Maharashtra, receiving government funding ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 4 crore. To address the necessity of a formal festival aimed solely at celebrating Marathi films, this decision was made, Shelar mentioned during the press conference.
The inaugural film festival is scheduled to be a three-day event taking place in Mumbai, featuring a selection of high-quality Marathi films that often go unnoticed by broader audiences.
A distinctive aspect of the festival will be the participation of the film teams accompanying their screenings, allowing for direct interaction with the audience. In line with international standards, the event will also incorporate seminars, panel discussions, and interviews with prominent scholars and industry professionals,” he added.
The specific dates and comprehensive guidelines for the festival will be announced shortly. The event will be collaboratively organized by the Maharashtra Film, Theatre, and Cultural Affairs department.
“This festival aims to create an essential platform that attracts film lovers from across the state, providing them with a chance to appreciate the rich artistry, diversity, and excellence of Marathi cinema,” the minister emphasized.
