Hyderabad, June 8 (NationPress) The ruling Congress party in Telangana took action on Sunday to address the concerns of MLAs feeling sidelined after recent Cabinet appointments.
Meenakshi Natrajan, who oversees Telangana for the party, along with state President Mahesh Kumar Goud and other leaders, engaged in discussions with dissatisfied MLAs regarding their exclusion from the Cabinet.
On the same day, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expanded his Cabinet by adding three ministers: G. Vivek Venkatswamy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Vakiti Srihari.
This long-anticipated Cabinet expansion, however, sparked discontent among certain MLAs who were believed to be strong candidates for ministerial roles. Notable figures such as Sudershan Reddy, a senior leader and former minister, alongside Prem Sagar Rao, Malreddy Ranga Reddy, and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, expressed their disappointment.
Sudershan Reddy, viewed as a top contender for a ministerial position, was notably upset about his exclusion. In response, Natrajan, Goud, Chief Minister’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar visited his residence in Jubilee Hills to reassure him.
Furthermore, Ranga Reddy had even scheduled a press conference amid rumors of his potential public dissent regarding his exclusion. However, after discussions with Natrajan and Goud, he decided to postpone the event.
The pair explained to Sudershan Reddy, Ranga Reddy, and others the rationale behind the Cabinet expansion, emphasizing a focus on ensuring social equity.
Among the newly appointed ministers, Vivek Venkatswamy, who previously served as an MP and is the son of former Union Minister G. Venkataswamy, along with Government Whip Adluri Laxman, represent the Scheduled Castes, while Srihari belongs to the Backward Classes. Additionally, Ramachandra Naik, who is expected to be named the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, is a tribal MLA.
This marks the first Cabinet expansion since the formation of the current Cabinet on December 7, 2023, which included the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and 11 ministers.
The long-awaited expansion occurred after the party’s central leadership approved the appointments of the three ministers.
Although there are unfilled positions in the Cabinet, the party leadership opted to leave three posts vacant.
The state can accommodate a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister.
