New Delhi, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Congress party has accused the Election Commission (EC) of intentionally targeting Dalit and Muslim women voters by removing their names from the electoral rolls during the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the election-ready state of Bihar.

During a press briefing in New Delhi, the President of the All India Mahila Congress, Alka Lamba, disclosed that approximately 22.7 lakh women's names have been eliminated from the electoral lists.

She pointed out that the majority of these removals occurred in six districts.

Lamba tracked the deletion pattern, indicating that 60 constituencies within these six districts have been specifically targeted.

She noted that during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the contest was tightly contested between the Mahagathbandhan and the NDA in these regions, asserting that the removal of voters' names was a deliberate conspiracy to skew the outcome in favor of the NDA.

The All India Mahila Congress President reiterated her party's dedication to combating vote theft in Bihar.

"Around 23 lakh female and 15 lakh male voters’ names were deleted during the recent SIR exercise, which was solely aimed at denying the voting rights of those who the BJP fears will oppose them," she stated.

Questioning the reasoning behind the removal of these voters' names at this juncture by labeling them as bogus, Lamba posed the question, "Using this logic, should not the 2024 parliamentary elections in these regions be canceled and redone?"

Reiterating her party's position against the SIR, she announced that on October 15, the party plans to submit five crore signatures to the EC protesting against vote theft across the country.

Additionally, the All India Mahila Congress President condemned the alleged refusal of a hospital in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, to provide treatment to a pregnant Muslim woman.
