Jammu, March 9 (NationPress) The Congress party's Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) division raised alarms regarding the security situation in the Union Territory following the discovery of three civilians from Kathua district who were found dead in a nearby forest area, three days after they went missing.
In an official statement, Tariq Hameed Karra, the President of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, along with senior party leaders, voiced their concerns over two distressing incidents in the Billawar area. These events underline the troubling security and law enforcement climate in the region.
Offering condolences to the victims' families, Karra, along with former MP Chaudhary Lal Singh, former Minister Manohar Lal Sharma, and State Congress District President Pankaj Dogra, criticized the Lieutenant Governor's administration and the Central government regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in various parts of the district. They called for immediate and more effective measures to stabilize the environment.
The leaders demanded a comprehensive investigation into these incidents to unveil the truth and address the growing fear and insecurity felt by residents across the entire pahari belt of the district.
The deceased, which included a teenager, were reported missing while en route to a wedding. Their bodies were discovered in the Ishu Nallah area by drones during a collaborative search operation conducted by the J&K Police and the Indian Army on Saturday afternoon.
The victims—Varun Singh (15) of Dehota, his uncle Yogesh Singh (32), and maternal uncle Darshan Singh (40)—had been part of a wedding procession headed for Lohai Malhar village in Billawar tehsil on Thursday.
Earlier in the week, locals reported seeing unknown suspects in the vicinity. The police have yet to release a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these three Hindu civilians.
