Congress Leader Bajwa Criticizes Punjab Government's Handling of Farmers' Protest

Chandigarh, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Monday launched a scathing attack on the AAP administration, accusing it of mishandling the ongoing farmers' protest and betraying the agrarian community while collaborating with the BJP to weaken the state’s illustrious agricultural legacy.
“The farmers of Punjab have once again showcased their unity and determination by making today’s bandh (shutdown) a monumental success,” Bajwa stated in his announcement.
“This movement highlights the validity of their demands and the inadequacy of both the AAP-led Punjab government and the BJP-led Central government in addressing their issues. Farmers are, and will always be, the backbone of our nation,” he emphasized.
Bajwa voiced his worries regarding the ongoing hunger strike of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, which has now reached its 35th day. He emphasized the farmers’ crucial demand for a guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for all crops, asserting it as vital for safeguarding their livelihoods.
The Congress leader accused the AAP government of neglecting this pivotal issue and instead colluding with the BJP to subvert the farmers’ peaceful protest.
“The news of a large police presence at the Patiala police lines is profoundly alarming,” Bajwa remarked. “Why has such a force been mobilized? Is this a strategy to intimidate or harm peaceful demonstrators? Let me make it clear, if the Punjab Police resorts to any form of violence and farmers suffer injuries, the blame will rest entirely on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This would constitute an unforgivable act of treachery against those who elected him.”
Bajwa further questioned Mann’s lack of action at the national level. “Why hasn’t Bhagwant Mann approached the Prime Minister or the Home Minister to settle this pressing issue? Why is he leaving it to bureaucrats and police officials instead of taking initiative? Farmers’ demands, particularly concerning MSP, transcend state issues—they necessitate national intervention,” he added.
Issuing a stern warning, he stated, “The farmers of Punjab and their demands for MSP cannot be overlooked or repressed. The citizens of Punjab will not accept betrayal from either the BJP or the AAP government. Both parties must recognize that Punjab’s voice and its farmers’ rights cannot be silenced.”
