New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) In the midst of stringent security measures at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday, Congress party members assembled for a demonstration against alleged 'vote theft', asserting that the central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) are in cahoots to rig elections.
This protest sparked controversy as numerous attendees were overheard chanting disrespectful slogans directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The rally aimed to hold the central administration and the ECI accountable for what the party termed as "collusion to manipulate elections".
As chants reverberated throughout the area, some activists were heard shouting, 'Modi teri kabra khudegi, aaj nahi to kal khudegi' (Modi, your grave will be dug, if not today, then tomorrow), alongside 'Vote chor, gaddi chhord', aimed at the Prime Minister.
Manjulata Meena, a Congress worker from Rajasthan, told IANS, "We stand with our leader Rahul Gandhi, who is championing the fight against the 'vote theft' perpetrated by the BJP in partnership with the ECI. The turnout here is substantial, and we are determined to combat this injustice."
When questioned regarding the derogatory slogans aimed at the Prime Minister, she reiterated the chant and stated, "The public is tired of this Hitler-like government. The people will amplify their voices, and it will become the final blow to his regime. The hacking of EVMs and vote theft will no longer be tolerated. Look at what transpired in Sri Lanka and Nepal; the populace is not gullible, they are aware, and they will ensure the final nail is driven into his coffin."
Sonia Begum, another Congress worker, defended the controversial remarks, stating, "We are united with Rahul Gandhi in this struggle. Every evil must meet its end. That is why we chant 'Modi teri kabra khudegi'. We seek change."
Throughout the demonstration, party supporters persistently voiced similar objectionable chants while brandishing placards and banners.
"The public is not being treated fairly. We support our leadership in advocating for the rights of the people. 'Modi teri kabra jarur khudegi'. The public will no longer endure these injustices like vote theft," stated Sunita, another Congress worker, to IANS.
The Congress leadership, including National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and senior figures such as K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are also set to partake in the protest.
Moreover, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, along with all Congress legislators from the state and over 1,000 party members, were expected to join the protest in the capital.
K.C. Venugopal remarked to IANS, "This demonstration is not against the BJP, but against vote theft. Lakhs of individuals are participating to safeguard democracy. The Congress will persist in its efforts to uphold democratic values. The people are clear that vote theft has transpired."
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also shared with IANS, "Since last evening, the streets, hotels, and alleys of Delhi have been bustling with people. The fervor with which they have gathered indicates they are on a mission to defend democracy and uphold the Constitution. While the BJP collaborated with the British during the freedom struggle, the Congress bore imprisonment, faced the gallows, and suffered atrocities to secure India's independence... We will continue this fight."
