Amaravati, Aug 6 (NationPress) The Congress party has made a significant move by appointing former Union MoS J.D. Seelam and former MLA Mastan Vali as the working presidents of the Andhra Pradesh unit. Additionally, a 25-member Political Affairs Committee has been established.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge officially designated J.D. Seelam and Mastan Vali as the working presidents of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
This announcement was made by AICC general secretary K. C. Venugopal on Wednesday.
Moreover, the AICC president has sanctioned the formation of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) for the APCC.
B. Manickam Tagore, who is the AICC in-charge for party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, has been appointed as the chairman of the PAC.
The PAC includes prominent members such as APCC president Y. S. Sharmila Reddy, former presidents N. Raghuveera Reddy and Gidugu Rudra Raju, along with former union ministers M. M. Pallam Raju, J.D. Seelam, and Chinta Mohan.
Other members of the PAC comprise K. Raju, Mastan Vali, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, K. Bapi Raju, G. V. Harsha Kumar, N. Tulasi Reddy, Killi Kuruparani, Lingamsetty Eswara Rao, P. M. Kamalamma, K. Sudhakar, Raketa Eliza Vunnamsetti, Kondeti Chittibabu, Amanchi Krishna Mohan, Surya Naik, Sirivella Prasad, G. Usha Naidu, Ganesh Yadav, and Dr. Palak Verma.
In September of the previous year, the AICC chief appointed vice presidents, general secretaries, district/city Congress committee presidents, and heads of various APCC cells.
The party then appointed 13 vice-presidents, 37 general secretaries, 25 DCC presidents, and 10 City Congress committee presidents.
Mallikarjun Kharge had previously appointed Sharmila as APCC president on January 16, 2024, shortly after she merged the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress party.
Sharmila is notably the sister of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, as well as the daughter of the late former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR.
She took charge of the party during the simultaneous elections for the state Assembly and Lok Sabha held in May 2024. Unfortunately, the Congress party faced another setback, failing to secure any seats in both elections.
In 2014, the Congress party suffered a significant downfall, not winning a single Assembly or Lok Sabha seat due to public discontent over the bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh. This loss led to the departure of several senior leaders to either YSRCP or TDP.
The party was unable to make any gains in 2019 either. Hopes were high for Sharmila’s leadership to turn the tide for the party in 2024, but once again, they were unable to achieve any victories.
