Chandigarh, April 11 (NationPress) Congress General Secretary and Punjab affairs in-charge, Bhupesh Baghel, stated on Friday that the party has initiated efforts to bolster its organization nationwide, with similar actions taking place in Punjab.

During his two-day visit, Baghel conducted a series of discussions with party officials, including a meeting with the District Congress Committee (DCC) president and another with the Political Affairs Committee. The former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh declared that 2025 has been designated by the Congress as the year to enhance organizational strength.

“The party is empowering the DCC presidents,” he remarked. He emphasized that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi met with all district presidents prior to the AICC session. The objective is to strengthen the party all the way down to the booth-level.

Moreover, the recent AICC Session in Ahmedabad placed significant emphasis on fortifying the party.

In an off-the-record chat with the press during the meetings, Baghel mentioned that the groundwork for the extradition of the 26/11 terror attack mastermind Tahawwur Rana was laid during the UPA tenure. He noted that such processes require time, citing that even the NDA took 11 years for his extradition.

He further stressed that these matters should transcend political affiliations, as they pertain to national interests. “What truly matters is that he has been extradited to India and will now be subjected to the country’s legal system for his crimes,” Baghel stated.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring highlighted that Friday's meetings concentrated on strengthening the party in the state and strategizing for the upcoming Ludhiana (West) by-election. He affirmed that the party prioritized this by-election and that every member would ensure victory.

Warring also pointed out that the public is not only disenchanted with the Aam Aadmi Party government but also feels a sense of fear due to the prevailing atmosphere. He noted that incidents like grenade attacks on a temple and the residence of a BJP leader, along with attempts to vandalize statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, seem aimed at fostering polarization in the state ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

In response to a query regarding the Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar's accusation that the AAP government is using its intelligence resources to surveil political rivals, Warring remarked, “What the BJP is doing at the Centre, the AAP is replicating in Punjab.”

He highlighted that while AAP may be leveraging intelligence in Punjab, the BJP is misusing various agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax across the nation.
