New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) - The Congress National President, Mallikarjun Kharge, presided over a crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters located at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday.
This high-profile assembly, which is currently in progress, features the presence of notable figures like Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, and Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, along with various senior party leaders.
Among the key attendees are K.C. Venugopal, the Congress General Secretary, Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana, Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka, senior Congress figure Harish Rawat, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, former MP Salman Khurshid, and MPs Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Rajeev Shukla.
Interestingly, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was seen participating in the meeting despite his recent comments that reportedly diverged from the party's official position.
In a statement to the press, Congress leader Harish Rawat emphasized the significance of the meeting, asserting, "It is unimaginable that Mahatma Gandhi's name could be erased from MGNREGA in independent India. Such a decision is utterly unacceptable."
Another Congress leader, M. Veerappa Moily, informed IANS that the meeting would address critical issues affecting the nation.
Sources indicate that the CWC will discuss the party's strategy for launching a significant movement against the VB G-RAM-G Act.
Additionally, topics such as the National Herald case, concerns regarding the Aravalli region, and other pivotal political matters are expected to be on the agenda.
Meanwhile, outside the AICC headquarters, approximately a dozen protesters gathered, advocating for the current Karnataka Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, to be appointed as the state's next Chief Minister.
The demonstrators chanted slogans and showcased posters to capture the attention of the Congress leadership, calling for an elevation of Dalit leadership and asserting that it is time for a Dalit Chief Minister in Karnataka.
