New Delhi, June 17 (NationPress) The Congress party on Tuesday called for immediate action from the Indian government to guarantee the secure return of Indians from Iran, a nation currently embroiled in a conflict with Israel.
Pawan Khera, the head of the media and publicity department for the All India Congress Committee, criticized the government for its slow response regarding the evacuation of Indians from the conflict-affected region.
"We have been highlighting this matter for the last three days. Numerous students from Kashmir are present there. We urge the government to awaken and recognize that merely issuing advisories is insufficient," Khera stated to IANS.
"The government must implement measures for the safe repatriation of Indians from there," he emphasized.
Previously, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported on Tuesday that due to the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, Indian students in Tehran have been relocated from the city, and some Indian nationals have been helped to exit the country via the Armenia border.
As the Israel-Iran conflict reached its fifth day, tensions between the two nations escalated further. The Israeli military confirmed that several missiles were launched from Iran towards Israel, activating air raid sirens in Haifa and numerous other areas in northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights.
"Indian students in Tehran have been evacuated for safety reasons, with assistance coordinated by the Embassy. Other residents capable of arranging their own transport have also been advised to leave the city considering the evolving situation," the MEA stated.
"Additionally, some Indians have been facilitated in their departure from Iran through the Armenia border," it added.
The Ministry also conveyed that the Indian Embassy is in constant communication with the community to offer all possible support. It indicated that further advisories will be provided for the safety of Indian nationals.
Earlier in the day, India urged its citizens in Iran and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) to evacuate Tehran and relocate to safer areas due to the rising tensions in the region.
