Are Covid Cases Rising in Gujarat? 451 Active Cases and Omicron Sub-Variants Detected

Ahmedabad, June 3 (NationPress) The state of Gujarat is experiencing a resurgence in Covid-19 cases, with a total of 451 active cases reported as of Tuesday, according to the health department.

Among these, 20 patients are currently hospitalized, while 431 individuals are in home isolation. To date, 43 people have recovered and been discharged.

The official count of fatalities has reached seven. Health officials have traced the new infections to the Omicron sub-variants LF.7.9 and XFG Recombinant. Most patients are exhibiting mild symptoms, such as low-grade fever, cold, and cough.

Authorities have urged those recovering at home to closely monitor their symptoms and seek immediate medical assistance if they face shortness of breath, chest pain, or any other severe discomfort.

Individuals with underlying health conditions or weakened immunity are strongly advised to steer clear of crowded places and to wear masks when outside. Medical professionals have linked the rise in infections to the cyclical pattern of the virus, indicating that Covid-19 surges tend to occur every six to eight months.

Experts have called for public vigilance but emphasized that there is “no need to panic”. Ahmedabad continues to be a hotspot in this wave, with 50 new cases reported in a single day.

The city also recorded a second consecutive Covid-related death on Monday—a pregnant woman, aged 18, from Vinzol, who unfortunately succumbed during treatment. Previously, a 47-year-old woman died at L G Hospital in the city. Health authorities are actively monitoring the situation and are encouraging residents to follow precautionary measures to prevent further spread.

In light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the Gujarat government has enhanced its preparedness across districts. Health officials have been directed to increase surveillance and testing, especially in urban hotspots like Ahmedabad.

Isolation protocols have been intensified, and hospitals have been instructed to maintain dedicated Covid-19 beds and oxygen supplies. The state has also reinstated daily health briefings to keep a close watch on the spread of infections.

District health officers are tasked with tracing contacts of positive cases and ensuring that home-isolated individuals receive regular follow-ups from health workers. Awareness campaigns are being revived in both urban and rural settings to remind citizens about hygiene practices, wearing masks in crowded places, and the significance of early medical intervention. Additionally, authorities are reviewing vaccination records and are urging eligible individuals to receive booster doses where necessary.
