Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) The remains of esteemed CPI leader R. Nallakannu are set to be donated to the Chennai Medical College Hospital on Thursday, fulfilling his longstanding desire to aid medical education.

The 101-year-old leader, who passed away in Chennai on Wednesday, will receive full State honours from the Tamil Nadu government prior to the donation, as announced by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

CM Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu would send off Nallakannu with the utmost respect, highlighting his life dedicated to sacrifice and public service, which merits state recognition.

His body has been placed for public homage at Balan House, the CPI’s office located in Thyagaraya Nagar, and will be available for homage until 3 p.m. Following this, party members will lead a procession to the medical college hospital for the donation.

Nallakannu had been receiving treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital after being admitted on February 1 due to age-related health issues. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated over the last two days as his body ceased responding to treatment. He ultimately succumbed to multiple organ failure at 1.55 p.m., despite receiving intensive care.
