Congress Leader Critiques Kerala Health Minister's Attack Claims as Political Theater
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kannur, Feb 25 (NationPress) Senior Congress Lok Sabha member from Kannur, K. Sudhakaran, remarked on Wednesday that while Veena George may fall short as a Health Minister, she has showcased her talents as a performer.
He claimed that the assertions made by CPI-M, suggesting that Kerala's Health Minister was assaulted at Kannur railway station by KSU workers, are entirely unfounded and represent a theatrical political stunt by the party.
She was scheduled to board the Vande Bharat train from Kannur and arrived at the railway station when the incident unfolded.
“From the various visuals associated with the incident, it is evident that the allegations of an attack and her purported injuries are disconnected from the actual events,” stated Sudhakaran, who has had an ongoing rivalry with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for over fifty years.
Sudhakaran noted that the KSU activists present demonstrated their dissent peacefully.
The students did not assault the Minister or engage in violence, he asserted, stressing that eyewitness testimonies and available data clearly support this.
He emphasized that nearly all visual media outlets in Kerala were on-site during the incident.
“Is there any footage from any media channel that shows KSU activists attacking the Minister? Even channels affiliated with CPI-M, such as Kairali TV, were present. Not a single channel has broadcasted images of KSU students attacking the Minister,” he said.
Instead, he alleged, the recordings depict the Minister aggressively confronting the demonstrators.
Sudhakaran maintained that CPI-M's claims are politically driven and lack a factual basis.
Meanwhile, the Minister is currently hospitalized in the ICU at Kannur district hospital, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and several prominent leaders visiting her.
Following the news, irate CPI-M supporters and their affiliated organizations took to the streets, and in the Minister's home district of Pathanamthitta, protesters vandalized KSU flagpoles and posters of Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan.
