New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) A 21-year-old male was apprehended in Palam village of Delhi for allegedly subjecting a college student to harassment by creating fraudulent Instagram accounts and utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools to produce objectionable materials.
The suspect was continually stalking and defaming the victim, a college student, through various counterfeit Instagram profiles, as stated by Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the South West District.
The victim lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station, West District, on June 16, detailing how the accused was creating new accounts daily using her photos, posting them with derogatory captions, and targeting her and her followers.
In response to the complaint, the police initiated a case under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The statement disclosed, 'Given the gravity of the situation, a specialized team led by SI Priyanka was assembled to locate and apprehend the accused.'
A team from the Cyber Police, South-West District, captured the notorious cyber stalker and confiscated the smartphone utilized for committing the crime.
During the inquiry, it was revealed that the accused was impersonating a female using a profile picture obtained from the victim's public Instagram account, according to the police.
The police further noted that the accused leveraged AI tools to transform the images into sexually explicit content and disseminated these modified pictures via fake Instagram stories.
Despite attempts to conceal his identity by not linking any accounts to verifiable mobile numbers or Gmail IDs, the cyber team employed advanced technical analysis to trace the suspect to the Palam area of South-West Delhi. Multiple raids were conducted before his successful capture.
The accused, whose identity remains confidential, admitted to the crime during the interrogation, as reported in the police statement.
Ongoing investigations are underway.
