D. K. Shivakumar Asserts Congress is Not Engaging in Vengeful Politics Regarding Covid 'Scam' FIR

Bengaluru, Dec 14 (NationPress) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar made it clear on Saturday that the Congress party is not resorting to vengeful politics by filing an FIR about the Covid 'scam'.

While speaking to the media, Shivakumar stated that the Congress-led Karnataka government is not pursuing a path of vengeance in taking action regarding the Covid 'scam'.

Shivakumar mentioned, "The government established a commission led by High Court Justice John Michael D’Cunha, and actions were taken based on the panel's recommendations."

"We are currently reviewing the recommendations, after which further actions will be taken, all within the framework of law," he added.

"If we were to engage in vengeful politics, decisions could have been made differently. The complainant had approached the court. If there was any intention to misuse police authority, decisions would have been made," Shivakumar remarked, referring to the POCSO case against former CM B. S. Yediyurappa.

"We had addressed various issues and scams prior to the elections. Once the commission submits its report, we cannot remain inactive," Shivakumar stated.

"Thus, we cannot overlook a commission's report, and the government will take appropriate actions," he asserted.

According to sources, the Congress government is preparing to take legal measures against notable BJP leaders accused in the Covid scam. Previously, the commission had indicated that B. S. Yediyurappa, along with former Health Ministers B. Sriramulu and K. Sudhakar, allegedly engaged in significant corruption and abuse of power during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government filed an FIR regarding this matter, naming officials at the Vidhana Soudha police station in Bengaluru on Friday.

Additionally, the government is planning to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the situation and take prompt action, as confirmed by sources.

The FIR, consisting of 10 pages, details the involvement of five doctors, two government officials, a pharmaceutical company, and various industries. It also highlights the participation of politicians, although no names have been disclosed.
