Dalit Individual's Demise in Police Station: Complainant Discovered Deceased

Bhopal, Jan 7 (NationPress) A week following the demise of a Dalit individual inside a police station in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas, the woman who lodged a complaint against him was found dead on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Rukhsana Khan (40), a resident of Kannod town in Dewas district. Her body was found suspended from a ceiling fan at her residence, police reported on Monday.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) of Kannod, Ketan Adlak, informed the media that the body was retrieved from her residence.

"Preliminary observations suggest a suicide case; however, the precise cause of death will be determined after the postmortem examination is conducted," he added.

It is important to note that on December 26, Rukhsana had filed a complaint against a Dalit man, Mukesh Langore, at the Satwas police station in Dewas, accusing him of using abusive language and issuing life threats while intoxicated. Based on Rukhsana Khan's complaint, Satwas police summoned Mukesh Langore (35) on December 28 to record his statements when he allegedly took his own life, as previously stated by Dewas police.

Dewas Superintendent of Police Puneet Gahlot clarified that Langore was not in police custody at the time of the incident but was giving his statement in the inquiry room under the supervision of station in-charge Ashish Rajput.

This incident sparked significant controversy, leading to the suspension of Satwas police station in-charge Ashish Singh and the initiation of a judicial inquiry on December 29.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed their discontent through social media postings, accusing the BJP government of being anti-Dalit.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, alleged that such incidents could not occur without governmental support. An inquiry into the Dalit man's death inside the police station, currently being conducted by a judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), is in progress, according to police.
