Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal/Dewas, Dec 6 (NationPress) The government of Madhya Pradesh took decisive action on Saturday by suspending Assistant Excise Commissioner Mandakini Dikshit following the emergence of a video featuring the deceased liquor contractor Dinesh Makwana, who tragically took his own life.
This suspension came just a day after the video gained widespread attention on social media.
In the disturbing footage, Makwana accused Dikshit of extortion and claimed that she had obstructed the supply of liquor from the warehouse, further pushing him into financial turmoil.
Dinesh Makwana, hailing from Indore, managed five liquor shops in Dewas district and died on November 8 after ingesting poisonous substances.
The video, in which he made serious allegations against Dikshit, surfaced on December 5, nearly a month after his passing.
A notification from the Madhya Pradesh's Department of Commerce and Tax confirmed the suspension, stating, "Media reports and social media revealed that Dinesh Makwana recorded a video before his tragic decision to end his life."
The notification further indicated, "In the video, Makwana spoke of harassment and extortion. These serious allegations implicate the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services and thus, Mandakini Dikshit is suspended immediately."
According to the suspension order from Additional Secretary Vandana Sharma, Dikshit has been reassigned to the Excise Commissioner’s office in Gwalior.
Makwana alleged that he had paid Rs 20 lakh to the Excise officer and faced monthly demands of Rs 1.5 lakh, which ultimately led to significant financial losses.
IANS reported on the situation, including a statement from Dewas District Collector Rituraj Singh, who confirmed that the incident is currently under investigation.
“A case has already been filed at the Indore police station. Appropriate actions will ensue once the investigation concludes and the facts are clear,” Singh stated to IANS on Friday.
