Bhopal, March 31 (NationPress) Dr. Rekha Raghuvanshi, a physician currently pursuing her DM (Doctorate of Medicine) in Neurology at Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC) in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, was discovered deceased under enigmatic conditions within her hostel room on March 22.

Reports indicate that her body was found “hanging” in her accommodation at the Yamuna Girls Hostel.

The family, in shock, received her body for last rites; however, they are now questioning the circumstances, struggling to accept the notion that their daughter would take her own life. The situation surrounding her death continues to be enigmatic, leaving numerous questions unanswered.

The family firmly rejects the idea of suicide, highlighting discrepancies in the reports. They allegedly informed the police that Rekha's body had been removed before officers arrived, and there is no photographic evidence to support the claim that she was found hanging. This situation, along with the fact that the purported suicide involved a grill only three feet high, has intensified suspicions of potential foul play.

According to Kampoo police station in-charge Rudra Pathak, a thorough investigation is currently underway, with the post-mortem report anticipated to shed light on the case.

The official further stated to IANS that her body was already lowered when the police team arrived. Nevertheless, questions persist, as insiders suggest that only a male individual could have had the ability to lower the body, raising the issue of how such access to the girls' hostel was acquired. The investigating officer assured that every angle would be meticulously scrutinized.

Moreover, anyone who witnessed her hanging should have contacted the police prior to lowering her body. Was she persistently contacted by someone? Insiders noted that a fellow doctor's call went unanswered, triggering an alert.

The Dean of the medical institute, Dr. R.K.S. Dhakad, shared with IANS that upon being informed of her failure to respond to phone calls and her “hanging” state, he quickly went to the scene with the hostel warden and other staff around 12:00-12:15 at night and immediately notified the superintendent of police. The police arrived promptly, according to the dean.

He disclosed that Rekha had never voiced any grievances and described her as a brilliant and dedicated professional.

This leading medical institution in Gwalior has a “Student Grievance Cell” designed to address stress-related issues or any concerns at all academic levels. Insiders mentioned that she had actively participated in a program organized on Saturday afternoon and appeared “cheerful” until that time.

The tragic passing of Rekha has led to the establishment of a college-level panel, chaired by Dr. Dhakad and comprising senior doctors, tasked with investigating the circumstances and ensuring that any findings of suspicion are reported to legal authorities.

Rekha, a 31-year-old originally from Madhna Khiriya village in Ashok Nagar, had joined GRMC in January 2024 and lived in room 218 of the hostel.
