Damoh, March 29 (NationPress) A collective of individuals in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh on Saturday darkened a municipal official’s face, hurled profanities, and issued a warning that they would physically assault him if he dares to offend the sentiments of Hindus again.
A recording of the incident appeared on social media, showing two men confronting Chief Municipal Official (CMO), Pradeep Sharma, at his residence in Damoh city.
As Sharma emerged from his home, they overpowered him and blackened his face.
Following the incident, Sharma was seen communicating with a police official via phone to report what had occurred.
“They have arrived at my home and blackened my face,” Sharma was heard informing the ASP in the viral video.
This incident transpired a day after the Damoh municipality took down Hindu religious flags from the Ghantaghar area in the city.
The municipality’s action sparked outrage among Hindu religious groups, who organized protests on Saturday.
Reports indicate that those who blackened CMO’s face are believed to be affiliated with the Hindu Sangathan, expressing their discontent over CMO’s directive to remove religious flags from the Ghantaghar area.
On Saturday, members of the Hindu Sangathan demonstrated, causing traffic disruptions in Damoh city. However, senior administrative and police officials arrived on the scene, managing to restore order within hours.
The Damoh district president of Vishva Hindu Parishad (BJP) Annu Khatri stated that CMO Sharma has offended Hindu sentiments and should issue an apology.
“We submitted a memorandum to the Damoh SP and Collector, demanding stringent action against the CMO,” he said.
Damoh SP Shrutkirti Somvansi informed media personnel that there was some miscommunication that led to the controversy.
“An investigation has been launched regarding this matter, and the report is expected to be submitted next week,” he added.
