New Delhi, July 31 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative, residents of Delhi will soon have the opportunity to experience the city's scenic beauty from the sky while aboard a hot air balloon. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has selected an agency to spearhead this project aimed at boosting eco-tourism, as confirmed by an official on Thursday.
This initiative, envisioned under the oversight of Lt Governor V.K. Saxena, aims to enhance recreational offerings at the Yamuna Sports Complex, Commonwealth Games Sports Complex, and along the banks of the Yamuna at Asita and Baansera.
According to an official announcement, the private agency will be allocated a space of 3,600 sqm (60X60 m) at each location for the hot air balloon operations, which are expected to commence within the next two months.
The contracted agency will oversee the project for three years, with the possibility of extending the agreement up to a maximum of nine years.
Each day, passengers will enjoy four hours of flight time, with the DDA having the option to extend this duration based on demand, as stated.
The private firm will manage the balloon rides on a revenue-sharing model, with pricing set in conjunction with the DDA's approval.
“To maintain transparency and accurate record-keeping, all ticket sales proceeds will be deposited into the DDA's account,” the statement elaborated.
The DDA has been actively working on the Rejuvenation of River Yamuna, with numerous projects underway along its banks, including Asita, which has transitioned from a previously encroached area into a stunning green landscape.
Under the guidance of L-G Saxena, the DDA has also transformed Baansera Bamboo Park at Sarai Kale Khan, previously a dumping ground for construction waste, into a vibrant bamboo-themed park featuring over 30,000 bamboo plants, three water bodies, and a musical fountain.
The Yamuna Sports Complex, situated in Surajmal Vihar, is the largest sports complex developed by the DDA, while the Commonwealth Games Sports Complex was established in 2010 for an international sporting event.
