Hyderabad, Jan 16 (NationPress) Vibrant hot-air balloons filled the skies over Hyderabad as a three-day festival commenced on Friday, heralding a new era in Telangana's tourism industry.

The festival was inaugurated by State Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao near the historic Golconda Fort at the Golf Club.

As part of the opening festivities, the Minister enjoyed a hot air balloon ride, soaring for approximately one-and-a-half hours and covering an impressive distance of 13 kilometres.

The journey commenced near the Golconda Golf Club and concluded at Appajiguda's outskirts, offering breathtaking aerial views of Hyderabad and its picturesque surroundings.

Around 40 passengers took flight in 18 hot air balloons that ascended in the morning.

Describing the experience as “truly unforgettable,” Jupally Krishna Rao asserted that this initiative symbolizes a new direction for the State's tourism.

Emphasizing Telangana's dual commitment to heritage and innovation, the Minister noted that events like the International Kite and Sweet Festival highlight the State's rich culture, while the Hot Air Balloon and Drone Festivals demonstrate a forward-thinking approach.

He remarked that this blend of culture and technology is crucial for establishing Telangana as a modern tourism hub.

Reiterating the government's dedication to enhancing the 'Destination Telangana' brand, Rao stated that the goal is to showcase the State's natural beauty and historical significance to a global audience.

Adventure tourism initiatives, he noted, would significantly contribute to attracting both domestic and international tourists by providing immersive travel experiences.

The Minister revealed that the State's new tourism policy aims to accelerate sector growth by drawing private investment and fostering public-private partnerships to create world-class infrastructure and services.

These initiatives, he stated, will also create job opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for local youth. “The balloons ascending into the sky today represent Telangana tourism reaching new global heights,” Jupally Krishna Rao expressed, confident that such efforts will position the State among India's premier tourism destinations.

According to Tourism Department officials, the hot air balloon ride, priced at Rs 2,000, will last between 45 minutes and one hour, covering a distance of approximately 8 to 10 kilometres, contingent on wind conditions. The maximum altitude for flights is set at 4,500 feet above sea level.

The venues for the morning flights on January 17 and 18 will be determined based on weather and wind direction.

Evening sessions are scheduled to take place at the Parade Ground in Secunderabad, where tethered hot air balloons will be featured as night-glow displays. These rides will involve vertical movement only, commencing at 5 p.m., with tickets priced at Rs 15.
