New Delhi, October 26 (NationPress) A 20-year-old woman suffered severe burn injuries to her hands when she was reportedly assaulted with acid by her stalker and his two accomplices near Laxmi Bai College in the Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi on Sunday morning, as per media reports referencing police sources.
The victim, currently a second-year student at a private college, was headed to an additional class when the suspects blocked her path near the college.
“The main perpetrator, Jitender, along with his accomplices, Ishan and Arman, who were riding a motorcycle, confronted her,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest), Bhisham Singh.
In her account, Ishan passed a bottle to Arman, who then threw the acid at her.
She instinctively raised her hands to protect her face, resulting in burns on both hands.
The assailants fled the location immediately following the attack.
The injured woman was promptly taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where medical personnel administered initial care and notified the police.
A forensic team and crime experts later arrived at the scene to gather samples and evidence. Initial investigations indicate that Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur—where the victim also lives—had been stalking her for several months.
Reports suggest that a heated argument occurred between them about a month ago, after which the harassment intensified.
A formal complaint has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those concerning acid attacks and criminal conspiracy.
“We are actively working to locate and apprehend the suspects. CCTV footage from the vicinity is currently being reviewed, and local intelligence is being gathered,” DCP Singh added.
This incident has re-ignited concerns regarding women’s safety and the accessibility of corrosive materials in the capital.
