Delhi BJP Criticizes Owaisi for Nominating Riots Accused Tahir Hussain

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Delhi BJP on Tuesday criticized AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for nominating Tahir Hussain, who is an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots, to stand as a candidate in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Hussain, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, has been chosen by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) to contest from the Mustafabad constituency.
This announcement sparked severe backlash from the BJP, which accused AIMIM of functioning as AAP's "B-team" and warned that any attempt to incite communal unrest in the national capital would have serious repercussions.
Expressing strong disapproval, BJP State Vice President Kapil Mishra stated, "Tahir Hussain is not merely an accused in the riots. His residence was discovered to be filled with petrol bombs, stones, and weapons intended to harm Hindus in Delhi. The young IB officer Ankit Sharma met a horrific end, having been stabbed 400 times in his home, with his body later disposed of in a drain."
In an interview with IANS, Mishra further accused Owaisi and other so-called "secular parties" of inciting Hindus in Delhi by supporting Hussain.
"This is a blatant attempt to disturb the peace in Delhi. In the past, the Shaheen Bagh protests were orchestrated before the elections. If riots are triggered in the name of Tahir Hussain this time, there will be consequences," he cautioned.
He suggested a conspiracy between AAP and AIMIM to polarize communities. "In 2020, riots were instigated within 12 days of the Assembly elections, with Hussain playing a significant role. This time, they intend to repeat this by rallying Muslims and intimidating Hindus. However, the Hindus of Delhi are now alert and will not permit such a situation to occur again," Mishra added.
BJP National Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa also criticized Owaisi, claiming, "By nominating Tahir Hussain for Mustafabad, Owaisi is endorsing someone involved in riots, arson, and the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma. This exemplifies divisive politics at its peak, rewarding individuals who undermine societal harmony. The Election Commission must take notice of this."
Sirsa accused Owaisi of engaging in politics of division and stated that his actions are a direct insult to the Hindu community.
BJP MP Kamaljeet Kaur also expressed her condemnation of the decision, labeling it as "an insult to society."
"Delhi serves as the capital of the country, and riots here are a serious concern. Nominating someone accused of such vile crimes raises significant doubts regarding the intentions of AIMIM and similar parties," she told IANS.
The BJP has urged authorities to guarantee that the electoral process is devoid of any communal provocations, pledging to oppose any attempts to destabilize Delhi.
