New Delhi, Aug 21 (NationPress) Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, who perpetrated an assault on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the Jan Sunvai event on Wednesday, has been placed in a five-day police remand as of Thursday.
The Delhi Police initiated an attempt to murder case against the 41-year-old Rajesh on Wednesday.
Authorities are currently interrogating the suspect to determine the underlying motive for the attack.
“In connection with the assault on the Chief Minister, a case under sections 109(1)/132/221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been filed at PS Civil Lines. The accused is now in police custody. Ongoing investigations are exploring all possible angles,” stated the Delhi Police.
As a result, the accused faces charges under Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 132 (obstructing a public servant), and Section 221 (impeding a public servant in fulfilling their duties).
The police also reported that a team from the central agencies and the Special Cell is currently questioning the accused.
Rajesh traveled to Delhi from Rajkot by train on Tuesday morning. This marked his first visit to the national capital. He resided at Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines before proceeding to Chief Minister Gupta's private residence in Shalimar Bagh, which he communicated to a friend during a phone call, according to police.
In the meantime, details regarding Rajesh's criminal background have surfaced. Police reports indicate that he has at least five cases registered against him at Bhaktinagar Police Station in Rajkot. He has been acquitted in four cases, while one remains pending in court, with the next hearing scheduled for September 9.
