Rajkot, Aug 20 (NationPress) The mother of Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, the individual who assaulted Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday, stated that her son is not mentally stable and tends to exhibit aggressive behavior towards family members during his episodes of poor health.

The Delhi Police apprehended the 41-year-old Rajesh on the same day after he attacked CM Rekha Gupta during the Jan Sunvai event held at the Chief Minister's official residence in Civil Lines, New Delhi.

Sources revealed that the Delhi Police have reached out to their counterparts in Gujarat for assistance. It was also noted that Rajesh, during questioning, informed the police of his origins in Rajkot. Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the assault.

Official confirmation regarding the attack and the assailant is still pending.

Bhanu Ben, Rajesh's mother, who lives in Rajkot, expressed that they are unable to provide adequate medical care for his mental health issues.

"He works as a rickshaw driver. His mental health is troubling. He can become aggressive towards family members at any moment, even directing his anger towards me. We have not been able to secure treatment for him. However, he does not harm outsiders and is kind to animals, feeding them daily, and maintaining good relations with neighbors," she shared with reporters, loosely translated from Gujarati.

The family has since approached the police station to provide their statements.

Neighbors echoed similar sentiments about Rajesh.

In reaction to the incident, Suresh, a neighbor, told IANS, "This is shocking; he is a genuinely good person. He often feeds stray animals. Although he drives a rickshaw and has some mental health issues, he has never acted out against anyone outside his home. Perhaps he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident."

For those unfamiliar, Chief Minister Gupta organizes Jan Sunvai every Wednesday at her residence in Civil Lines.

CM Gupta arrived punctually at 8 a.m. for the event, where she was addressing citizens' grievances when the attack occurred.

As she approached Rajesh, he reportedly began shouting at her, seizing her hand, according to sources.

This incident raises serious concerns regarding security protocols.

Furthermore, the Delhi Police plan to conduct an internal investigation to understand how such an event could transpire despite existing security measures.

According to initial unverified reports, Rajesh allegedly shouted at Chief Minister Gupta, struck her, and began to insult her.

Reports suggest that Rajesh handed CM Gupta certain documents related to a court case before the attack.

A police team, under the leadership of Delhi Police Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh, is currently investigating the matter.

As of now, CM Gupta is under medical observation to assess the extent of her injuries, according to sources.

In the aftermath of the incident, security has been intensified at the Chief Minister's residence.

Ongoing investigations are underway, with further updates pending.

Point of View

I emphasize the necessity of addressing mental health issues and the importance of robust security measures at public events. This incident not only highlights the vulnerabilities in our system but also calls for a deeper understanding and better support for individuals struggling with mental health challenges. We must advocate for both safety and compassion.
