New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) Delhi Ministers accused that the individual who attacked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had been scouting her official residence for approximately 24 hours, even taking video footage of the premises and spending the night nearby, suggesting that the assault was a meticulously planned event.

The assailant, a 41-year-old named Rajesh from Rajkot, Gujarat, was apprehended by the Delhi Police shortly after the attack.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning during the Jan Sunvai program at the Chief Minister's official residence in Civil Lines, where she routinely engages with residents of Delhi to hear their concerns.

Authorities have confirmed that Rajesh is currently being interrogated to uncover the motive behind the attack, and the Gujarat Police have been notified regarding the case. Official updates on the incident and further details about the accused are pending.

As reported by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the attacker forcibly grabbed the Chief Minister's hair and pinned her down until she was rescued by security forces and bystanders.

"For the first time in a long while, Delhi has a Chief Minister who consistently holds Jan Sunvai events at her residence, personally addressing the issues of 1,000 to 2,000 individuals daily without restrictions. Today’s event is exceedingly condemnable. We just spoke with the CM; she has incurred injuries, and her MLC examination is in progress," Verma informed the media.

"The police are conducting an investigation. It's been revealed that the attacker had been surveilling the CM's residence for a full 24 hours and even spent the night close by. He arrived at the Jan Sunvai without any requisite documentation, and once he encountered the Chief Minister, he launched his attack. He grasped her hair for an extended period while those around tried to intervene," he added.

Verma noted that the Chief Minister suffered injuries to her hand, shoulder, and head. "Currently, medical professionals are treating her. Whether this is a political conspiracy will only be clarified post-investigation," he stated.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa asserted that the assailant had previously visited Rekha Gupta's residence in Shalimar Bagh and recorded videos there.

"He understood that Rekha Gupta interacts with thousands of individuals daily during Jan Sunvai without restrictions. He held her pinned to the ground for an extended duration, indicating he approached solely with the intent to attack. He didn't possess any Jan Sunvai-related documentation. This strongly suggests the attack was premeditated," Sirsa told reporters.

"No one should assume they can assault a woman Chief Minister and evade consequences. The Jan Sunvai events will proceed as usual. Our CM remains dedicated to the development of Delhi. She engages with numerous individuals and often operates with minimal security, which is evidently what he exploited during this attack," Sirsa emphasized.

For those unaware, Chief Minister Gupta conducts 'Jan Sunvai' every Wednesday at her residence in Civil Lines.

As planned, CM Gupta arrived for the event at 8 A.M. The incident unfolded while she was addressing the public's grievances.

Upon approaching Rajesh, he began yelling at her and grabbed her hand, according to sources.

This occurrence is being regarded as a significant failure in her security measures.

Moreover, the Delhi Police will initiate an internal investigation to ascertain how the incident transpired despite stringent security protocols.
