The suspect has been taken into custody, and further inquiries are ongoing as we explore all possible leads," stated the Delhi Police.
The accused faces charges under Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 132 (obstruction of a public servant), and Section 221 (obstruction of a public servant in the execution of public duties) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Authorities indicated that a task force from the Central Agency and Special Cell is currently interrogating the suspect.
Additionally, police are considering requesting a 5 to 7-day remand for Rajesh to determine the motivations behind the attack.
Rajesh arrived in Delhi from Rajkot via train on Tuesday morning. It was his inaugural visit to the national capital, where he stayed at Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines. Following this, he proceeded to CM Gupta's private residence in Shalimar Bagh and communicated with a friend about his plans, as per police information.
Earlier, CCTV footage from CM Gupta's residence in Shalimar Bagh showed Rajesh arriving outside the premises and making a call. He was observed scouting the area and recording a video.
The footage suggested that Rajesh had conducted prior surveillance and documentation, corroborating claims from Delhi Ministers Parvesh Verma and Manjinder Singh Sirsa that the attack was premeditated.
According to police, around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, when the accused visited CM Gupta's Shalimar Bagh residence, staff provided him with directions to the Chief Minister's official residence and details regarding the timing of the Jan Sunvai.
He then returned to Gujarat Bhavan to spend the night before arriving at the venue for the Jan Sunvai around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, coinciding with the Chief Minister's arrival.
Furthermore, information about Rajesh's criminal history has surfaced. Police revealed that at least five cases are registered against him at Bhaktinagar Police Station in Rajkot. He has been acquitted in four of these cases, while one remains pending in court, with the next hearing set for September 9.
The Gujarat Police have been notified regarding this case, and officials await further confirmation about the accused's details.
