New Delhi, Oct 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, has sharply criticized the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of being uninterested in public welfare and indulging in vote-bank politics. This criticism was made during her visit to Darbhanga in Bihar, where she spoke to IANS about Gandhi’s recent political statements related to Chhath Puja.
Gupta took a dig at the Congress leader, stating, “PM Modi has been tirelessly serving the nation, a fact that many find hard to accept. Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, appears sporadically like an election-season frog, makes a brief appearance, speaks out, and then vanishes again.”
She added that the citizens of Bihar and India “recognize his true nature,” claiming he has done nothing for public welfare in the past and is unlikely to do so in the future.
In response to Gandhi’s comments about Chhath celebrations in Delhi, the Delhi CM accused him of belittling the sentiments of Purvanchali communities.
“Those who feel discomfort seeing the progress that has been made under the BJP, which was absent during the last 27 years of Congress and AAP, will have to endure it,” remarked Gupta.
“If you insult Chhath Maiya and offend the Purvanchal community for the sake of vote-bank politics, it will not be tolerated. The people of Purvanchal and Bihar understand this,” she asserted.
Interestingly, her comments followed Rahul Gandhi’s speech at a rally in Muzaffarpur, where he accused PM Modi's politics of being based on “drama and deception,” referencing the PM’s recent symbolic “Yamuna bath” during Chhath Puja.
“There was no Yamuna ji present—only a pond filled with clean water for Modi ji, which was brought through pipes for his photo opportunity while the actual India suffers in polluted water,” said Gandhi.
Shifting focus to Bihar’s development, Gandhi remarked that the state’s youth have been deprived of opportunities for years under Nitish Kumar’s governance.
“For the past 20 years, Nitish Kumar has been at the helm, yet what progress has he made in education, healthcare, or employment?” he questioned, labeling the JD(U)-BJP alliance a “remote-controlled government” operating from Delhi.
