Delhi CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates drainage, park projects in Shalimar Bagh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday, 4 July inaugurated a series of development projects and conducted on-ground inspections of key public infrastructure in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency and Pitampura, pledging to build modern infrastructure that permanently addresses the area's chronic water-logging and sewage problems.
Key Inaugurations
Gupta began her visit at BD-FD Park in Pitampura, where she inaugurated beautification and development works, along with 93 newly installed electric poles and a modern park lighting system. She said the Delhi government is undertaking large-scale efforts to make public parks safer, more attractive, and more convenient, noting that well-developed green spaces contribute to both environmental conservation and public health.
She then inaugurated multiple projects executed by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to strengthen the rainwater drainage and sewerage network across Shalimar Bagh. These include precast drainage systems on both sides from DT Mall to CA Block, a modern drainage network from CA Block to Shalimar Village Chowk Underpass, from the RUB to GT Karnal Road (Azadpur Mandi Gate), and from Shalimar Chowk to DA Block. An additional sewage pumping station, along with its associated delivery line, was also commissioned — providing what officials described as a permanent solution to long-pending sewerage issues in Shalimar Village, Sahipur Village, and surrounding localities.
Infrastructure and Healthcare Inspections
Gupta inspected the NP Block Dispensary, reviewing the availability of medicines, medical equipment, and public facilities. She directed health officials to ensure every citizen receives quality and timely healthcare, warning that negligence at any level will not be tolerated.
She also reviewed ongoing works related to park beautification, modern drainage systems, sewerage management, irrigation infrastructure, and technical education institutions, directing officials to complete all pending projects within stipulated timelines and to the highest quality standards.
Canal Inspection at Singhalpur
The Chief Minister inspected the Munak Canal at Singhalpur, where officials from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department briefed her on water flow, canal maintenance, cleaning arrangements, and water management. She directed officials to ensure the regular cleaning and conservation of canals and water bodies to strengthen both water supply and environmental balance — an instruction that carries added urgency ahead of the monsoon season.
Skill Development and What Comes Next
Gupta also visited the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University Kasturba Campus in Pitampura, reviewing academic and technical facilities, training infrastructure, and skill development programmes. She said the Delhi government is continuously investing in employment-oriented technical education to align young people with industry requirements.
Across all stops, Gupta emphasised that the government's objective is not merely to inaugurate projects but to ensure their timely, high-quality, and effective implementation — with area-wise inspections serving as a regular accountability mechanism. All projects are expected to be fully operational before the peak monsoon period.
