New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled a significant Budget of Rs 1.03 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, highlighting an ambitious initiative to tackle the long-standing drainage problems while also emphasizing substantial infrastructure reforms.
Labeling it a “Green Budget”, CM Gupta allocated 21 percent of the total budget for projects aimed at enhancing environmental protections.
She criticized prior administrations for fostering a ‘freebies culture’ and implementing populist measures that hindered growth in the capital.
Revamping Drainage and Road Infrastructure
The Chief Minister announced a historic budget proposal of Rs 160 crore dedicated to improving the drainage system in Delhi, marking a groundbreaking initiative.
In another innovative step, the government committed to constructing roads in non-conforming areas, with an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore specifically for road construction and enhancement.
The extension of the Modi Mill Flyover up to Kalkaji is estimated to cost Rs 371 crore, with an additional Rs 454 crore set aside for two-lane road development on both sides of the Najafgarh drain.
Additional projects include an underpass at Gagan Cinema, costing around Rs 100 crore, and a comprehensive flyover from Yamuna Vihar to Bhajanpura, alongside an underpass from Saket to Kalkaji, with a combined budget of Rs 2,000 crore.
“These measures will significantly reduce traffic congestion in these vital areas,” she remarked.
Enhancing Housing Infrastructure and Senior Citizen Schemes
Focused efforts are being made to enhance housing infrastructure and improve facilities for the elderly.
The 'Vayu Anand Yojana', a program targeting senior citizens, is set to launch with a budget of Rs 125 crore.
Moreover, Rs 134 crore has been allocated for the development of slum clusters and the establishment of 'Atal Canteens'.
CM Gupta reiterated her commitment to achieving ‘housing for all’, revealing that renovations on around 2,400 flats are already in progress.
Women-Centric Initiatives
Furthermore, CM Gupta announced various initiatives to bolster women's infrastructure and transform Anganwadis into model childcare centers.
“The Department of Women and Child Development has been allocated Rs 74.06 crore, with Rs 51.10 crore set aside for the 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana',” she stated.
Addressing concerns regarding Anganwadis in poor conditions, she emphasized the government's commitment to reform every Anganwadi into a childcare center.
“We have allocated Rs 33 crore specifically for these Anganwadis and childcare centers,” she noted.
'Pink Cards' have been introduced to enable free bus travel for women, extending this service to the transgender community on Delhi's DTC buses.
“A budget of Rs 10 crore has been set aside for establishing 'Mahila Haats' (Women’s Markets), named 'Rani Haats', aimed at empowering women and fostering self-reliance,” she concluded, revealing the Rs 1.03 lakh crore Delhi Budget.
