New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) - In a bid to enhance air quality and bolster green initiatives, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has earmarked ₹22,236 crore, accounting for approximately 21.44 percent of the 2026-27 Budget. This strategic allocation is aimed at ensuring a pollution-free environment for future generations, as stated by an official on Sunday.
Detailing the significant elements of the 'Green Budget' for 2026-27, the official noted that out of the total state budget of ₹1,03,700 crore, ₹22,236 crore has been distributed across 17 departments, with phased allocations designed for synchronized efforts across various sectors.
The Chief Minister emphasized that all departmental expenditures will now be aligned with green objectives, thus ensuring that financial outlay directly contributes to positive environmental outcomes, according to the statement.
The largest portion, ₹6,485 crore, will be directed to the Delhi Jal Board for the purpose of cleaning the Yamuna River and enhancing water treatment facilities.
The Transport Department is set to receive ₹4,758 crore to expand the fleet of electric buses and to promote a more sustainable public transport system.
Additionally, the Public Works Department (PWD) will be allocated ₹3,350 crore to combat dust pollution and to develop green infrastructure throughout the city.
The Planning Department has secured ₹2,350 crore to conceptualize and implement green projects, while the Urban Development Department and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) will collectively receive ₹2,273 crore for targeted environmental measures. Furthermore, ₹1,410 crore has been designated for the Power Department to promote solar energy and other renewable resources.
Moreover, various other departments will benefit from a dedicated 'Green Fund'. The Environment Department will receive ₹558 crore for pollution control initiatives, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department will get ₹305 crore for water conservation projects, and the Development Department will have ₹258 crore allocated to foster green growth in rural regions.
The Forest Department is set to benefit from ₹181 crore aimed at afforestation and wildlife conservation. The Tourism Department has been allocated ₹102 crore to encourage eco-friendly tourism, while ₹100 crore is assigned to the Education Department to implement green initiatives within schools.
Lastly, ₹42 crore will be allocated to the Industries Department to mitigate industrial pollution, ₹31 crore to the Health Department for environmental improvements in healthcare facilities, and ₹23 crore to the Revenue Department for disaster management and environmental surveys.
