New Delhi, Aug 30 (NationPress) On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially opened the office for the District Development Committee Chairman in North Delhi and spearheaded a cleanliness initiative as part of a broader mission to enhance grassroots governance and civic participation.
She was accompanied by Member of Parliament Yogender Chandolia and local MLA Rajkumar Bhatia.
During her speech at the opening ceremony, CM Gupta emphasized the remarkable transformation of the North District building, reaffirming her administration's dedication to empowering district governance.
“Our North District building has undergone a complete renovation, rectifying previous inadequacies. It now serves as a beacon of good governance,” she stated.
“We have initiated the activation of all District Magistrate offices. Upon taking office, we concentrated on rejuvenating all 11 districts. We provided comprehensive support to our District Magistrates, whether in staffing, administrative powers, or financial backing,” she continued.
The Chief Minister’s statements align with a larger initiative to decentralize administrative efficiency and enhance service provision at the district level. The event also encouraged public participation in a cleanliness campaign, highlighting the government’s focus on community-led governance and civic responsibility inspired by Swachh Bharat.
This event follows a significant announcement made by CM Gupta earlier on Thursday, when she reintroduced the cherished 'University Special' (U-Special) bus service at the Delhi University Sports Complex, bringing back a beloved service that had been halted for years.
This upgraded service features modern electric buses equipped with air conditioning, CCTV, panic buttons, and music systems.
Officials mentioned that the new fleet is both environmentally friendly and tailored for students, ensuring safety, comfort, and accessibility for the city’s college-going demographic. Strategically planned routes include Narela to Patel Chest, Najafgarh to Aurobindo College, Purnachandra Hostel to Ramjas College, and Rithala Metro to Aditi College, among others. Schedules have been optimized to match academic hours for maximum student convenience.
