How is CM Rekha Gupta Addressing the Flood Crisis and Supporting Punjab Victims?

New Delhi, Sep 6 (NationPress) On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a thorough review of the flood crisis in the city, as the Yamuna river's water level slightly decreased but still exceeded the danger threshold. She announced a generous relief fund of Rs 5 crore for victims affected by the calamity in Punjab.

"I pray to God that everyone gets relief from this crisis soon. On behalf of the Delhi Government, we are announcing assistance of Rs 5 crore to the Punjab CM Relief Fund," she stated after assessing the ongoing relief efforts for flood victims in Delhi.

"We hope Punjab can swiftly navigate through these challenging times, allowing its residents to return to their homes, families, and everyday lives... I have personally communicated with the Punjab Chief Minister, assuring him that we stand ready to provide any additional support that may be needed," she remarked.

Throughout the day, the Yamuna's level dropped slightly to 206.47 metres at the Old Railway Bridge, although it remains above the danger mark.

This decrease in water level followed several days of the river surpassing the 207-metre threshold.

The flooding in Delhi has affected over 18,000 individuals, prompting the Delhi government to establish 38 relief camps, according to an official report from Friday. Almost 5,000 people were evacuated via boats in the East District.

In response to the crisis, NDRF teams have been stationed in the impacted districts to assist in evacuating residents from vulnerable areas, as stated by the official.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta urged citizens to remain calm and dismiss rumors.

She emphasized that the government, administration, NDRF, public representatives, civic bodies, and social organizations are collaboratively addressing this challenge, with the situation expected to stabilize soon.

Tents and relief camps have been established in all affected regions. Thanks to the cooperation of the Delhi Jal Board, MCD, and DUSIB, basic necessities such as food, clean drinking water, and sanitation facilities have been provided, the official added.

Special teams have been tasked with relocating citizens and their livestock to safer areas.

In East Delhi, under the direction of the District Magistrate, the Boat Club successfully evacuated more than 5,000 individuals from the flood-prone areas of the Yamuna. Braving peril, divers and boatmen also rescued numerous animals, including cattle, goats, and dogs.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department of the Delhi Government is actively coordinating with the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department to monitor the water discharge from the Okhla Barrage, ensuring that floodwaters are efficiently channeled downstream, as stated by the official.

Reports have surfaced regarding waterlogging in certain areas of the South-West and North districts due to damage to several drains in adjacent Haryana regions.

Officials have been instructed to promptly manage the situation and facilitate drainage from the impacted zones. Ongoing discussions are being held with relevant departments of the Haryana Government, with an expected resolution soon, according to the statement.

CM Gupta, along with city BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, finalized a plan on Friday to collect flood relief supplies from the public and distribute them to those in need, augmenting the efforts of government agencies.

As the Yamuna flooded several low-lying areas in North Delhi, including Yamuna Bazar, Kashmere Gate ISBT, Civil Lines, Tibetan Market, and Majnu Ka Tila, the CM decided to enlist the help of party workers to expand the relief operations.

Following the meeting, CM Gupta posted on X, "A high-level meeting was conducted at the Delhi BJP office under the leadership of State President @Virend_Sachdeva ji, during which the flood situation in Delhi and across the country, along with relief initiatives, were reviewed."
