New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) The empathy of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for stray animals was prominently showcased on Saturday when she exited her vehicle to address a man feeding cows on a congested road, cautioning him that this practice poses risks to both bovines and motorists, in addition to causing unnecessary food wastage.
With her hands clasped in a gesture of respect, CM Gupta urged the individual, who was in a blue car parked near a central divider, to refrain from offering 'rotis' on busy streets and instead suggested feeding them at designated areas or cow shelters.
The event transpired during the Chief Minister's routine travels through the city, and she shared a video of the encounter on her social media platform.
"While navigating through the capital today, I noticed a man tossing roti from his vehicle onto the street—presumably to feed a cow. I halted my car and kindly asked him to refrain from doing so. Roti is not merely food; it represents our culture, faith, and respect," stated the CM on her X account.
"Dispersing roti onto the roadway compels cows and other animals to approach for food, which jeopardizes their safety as well as that of the public and vehicles. Food should never be disrespected. If you wish to nourish animals, please do so at a Gaushala or a designated location. This reflects our sensitivity, responsibility, and values," she emphasized.
"I urge all residents of Delhi: Do not discard roti or any food on the streets. Feed animals with love but also with responsibility. Honor your culture and maintain the safety of our roads," concluded CM Gupta.
This is not the first instance of CM Gupta advocating for stray cows.
Last month, her convoy encountered stray cows on the Haiderpur flyover in north Delhi, leading her to exit her vehicle to facilitate safe passage for the animals.
During the presentation of the Delhi Budget 2025-26, CM Gupta, who also manages the finance portfolio, allocated a special provision of Rs 40 crore for establishing a modern cow shelter in the city.
