New Delhi, Nov 16 (NationPress) - On Sunday, the Delhi BJP convened an organizational meeting aimed at formulating a robust strategy for the by-elections concerning 12 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), scheduled for November 30.
Led by National Organisational General Secretary B.L. Santosh, the meeting witnessed prominent city leaders being designated crucial roles to ensure a decisive victory in the by-elections, thereby enhancing the BJP's presence within the civic body.
With a total of 53 candidates vying for the 12 seats, the counting of votes is set for December 3. The BJP currently holds nine out of the twelve vacant wards up for election.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a post on X, expressed, “Today, during a pivotal organizational meeting at the state office regarding the forthcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation by-elections, we received insightful guidance from the esteemed National Organisational General Secretary Shri B.L. Santosh Ji.”
She further stated, “The Delhi BJP is wholly dedicated to raising the flag of victory once again in Delhi through our commitment, discipline, and service spirit. This meeting included the Honourable State President Shri Virendra Sachdeva Ji, State Organisational General Secretary Shri Pawan Rana Ji, along with senior officials and public representatives of the Delhi BJP.”
In a message on X, Santosh informed, “Conducted a review meeting for the preparations for the by-elections to 12 wards of Delhi Municipal Corporation on 30 November 2025. Hon’ble CM Smt @gupta_rekha, State President Sri @Virend_Sachdeva, Union MoS Sri Harsh Malhotra participated in the meeting.”
Earlier, the CM stated, “These by-elections represent a significant step towards continually ensuring local development, cleanliness, and order in Delhi.”
“All our candidates are devoted to serving the public with utmost dedication, integrity, and transparency. We take pride that out of our total 12 candidates, eight are women,” she added.
The by-elections were prompted by the election of Councillors from these seats to Parliament and the Delhi Assembly in the past year.
Eleven councillors, including CM Gupta, became Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
The Dwarka-B ward has been vacant since last year after BJP's Kamaljeet Sehrawat was elected as a Member of Parliament from West Delhi.
As per an MCD official, the BJP presently has 116 councillors, AAP has 98, Indraprastha Vikas Party has 15, and Congress holds eight seats, with one seat occupied by an Independent in the 250-member civic body.
