Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in the vibrant road show of Anita Jain, the BJP candidate for the MCD’s Shalimar Bagh-B in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 30. This event also marks the nomination process for another party candidate, as indicated by a party official.
CM Gupta expressed her gratitude for the public's enthusiastic response during the road show. On social media platform X, she stated, “With your blessings, our commitment to develop Delhi has grown even stronger. This support will further fuel our energy and dedication towards effective governance, public trust, and transparent development.”
The significance of these by-elections is underscored by experts who view them as a reflection of the popularity of the Delhi government led by CM Gupta. They believe that the results will indicate the political mood in the city, particularly after the BJP regained control in the Assembly for the first time in 27 years earlier this year.
CM Gupta shared her experience, saying, “Today, I had the honor to be part of the nomination roadshow for Anita Jain, the municipal corporation candidate from Shalimar Bagh-B, Ward Number 56, and I witnessed an overwhelming display of public enthusiasm and affection.”
The heartfelt reception from the community clearly illustrates the broad support for the BJP across all 12 wards, including Shalimar Bagh-B, she noted.
An official also mentioned that CM Gupta took part in a puja ceremony before the nomination of Veena Asija, the candidate from Ashok Vihar, Ward 65, in the MCD bye-election, offering her best wishes.
In her post on X, the CM remarked, “Veena Asija’s commitment, hard work, and dedication to public service have earned her a special connection with the people. She will undoubtedly receive the full support and affection of the constituents in this ward.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that this bye-election is a crucial step towards enhancing local development, cleanliness, and order in Delhi.
“All our candidates are devoted to serving the public with utmost dedication, integrity, and transparency. We take pride in the fact that out of our 12 candidates, 8 are women,” she stated.
“This clearly signifies our commitment to empowering women's leadership and representation. I extend my best wishes to all candidates for their upcoming election campaigns. I am confident that the informed citizens of Delhi will grant their invaluable support towards this service-oriented mission,” she concluded.
The vacant wards include Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, Dakshin Puri (SC), Greater Kailash, and Vinod Nagar.
These wards are part of significant Assembly constituencies such as Mundka, Wazirpur, Matiala, Najafgarh, Rajender Nagar, Deoli, and Patparganj.
The need for these by-elections arose after councillors in these seats were elected to Parliament and the Delhi Assembly over the past year.
Eleven councillors, including CM Gupta, were elected as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). The Dwarka-B ward has been unoccupied since last year after Kamaljeet Sehrawat of the BJP was elected as a Member of Parliament from West Delhi.
As per an MCD official, the current composition includes 116 councillors from the BJP, 98 from AAP, 15 from the Indraprastha Vikas Party, 8 from Congress, and one Independent in the 250-member civic House.
