Several cabinet ministers and senior officials from various departments attended the meeting.
This scheme already honors notable figures like Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Saint Ravidas, Maharishi Valmiki, Saint Kabir, Saint Gadge Ji Maharaj, and Saint Durbal Nath.
CM Gupta shared that the SC/ST/OBC welfare department has previously allocated financial support for commemorating the birth and death anniversaries of these revered personalities as part of this initiative.
The inclusion of 'Jhalkari Bai Koli' is now a significant addition to this scheme.
During the cabinet meeting, CM Gupta highlighted that this courageous warrior is emblematic of the remarkable bravery displayed during the Indian freedom struggle. The Delhi Government’s decision to honor her contributions is a vital step forward.
She explained that registered non-governmental organizations (NGOs) receive assistance to celebrate the birth or death anniversaries of these prominent figures under this scheme.
A maximum financial aid of Rs. 50,000 has been established for each event.
Gupta further stated that this decision by the Delhi Government underscores its ongoing commitment to recognize the contributions of national heroes who have significantly impacted India's history and social progress.
She also noted that Jhalkari Bai Koli was a distinguished freedom fighter and one of the most respected figures in the First War of Independence of 1857, serving in the army of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi.
“Her remarkable courage, steadfast patriotism, and leadership were pivotal during the historic siege of Jhansi. Her legacy embodies the strength and bravery of Indian women who resisted colonial rule,” the CM stated.
“Including Veerangna Jhalkari Bai Koli in this scheme goes beyond mere administration; it fortifies the ideals of social justice and equality,” the CM added.
Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned that numerous organizations representing the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes have long sought for the inclusion of this warrior's birth anniversary within the scheme.
“The government has acknowledged this request, honoring the sentiments of these communities,” she concluded.
