Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined ministers and senior officials on Monday, 18 May in observing 'Metro Monday' — a Delhi government initiative under the 'Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan' campaign that urges citizens to switch to public transport and reduce fuel consumption.

Lieutenant Governor Sandhu, a regular Metro commuter, rode the Delhi Metro to Central Delhi and used the occasion to interact with young professionals on board. In a post on X, Sandhu wrote, 'As on previous occasions, bumped into young professionals during my metro ride to Central Delhi this evening. Their insightful perspectives reflect the energy and ambition of a new India. Such interactions always offer valuable ground-level insights into the opportunities and challenges faced by our youth.'

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta commuted to office by Metro and, on her return, boarded from Delhi Gate Metro Station — the nearest station to her official engagements. Her participation underscored the government's intent to lead by example on fuel conservation, a politically charged issue as pump prices remain elevated.

Ministers and MPs Join the Initiative

Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh travelled to the Delhi Secretariat using the Metro and feeder bus services. Labour Minister Kapil Mishra, who also took the Metro and Metro Feeder Bus, said, 'The citizens of Delhi are playing a significant role in responding to the Prime Minister's appeal by prioritising public transport, carpooling, energy conservation, and adopting Make in India initiatives.'

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood rode the Metro and interacted with fellow passengers, urging adoption of sustainable transport. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari from the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency also travelled by Metro, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national appeal to cut fuel consumption.

Industries and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa commuted from his constituency Rajouri Garden to Indraprastha Metro Station and then switched to the EV DEVI Bus service to reach the Secretariat. Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh boarded at Uttam Nagar, alighted at R.K. Ashram Marg, and completed the last leg via an electric Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus — interacting with commuters, including children, who raised suggestions on Metro operations.

EV Parking Incentive at Connaught Place

Alongside the Metro rides, parking charges for electric vehicles at Connaught Place were reduced by 50 per cent as part of the broader push for eco-friendly transportation. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal distributed parking passes to incentivise greater EV adoption in the capital.
