New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) On Friday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will launch 200 new electric buses along with the Delhi-Rohtak interstate electric bus service, in addition to rolling out other public transport initiatives.
This introduction of new e-buses signifies a crucial advancement in enhancing sustainable mobility and modernizing the transport framework, as stated by an official.
Additionally, she will inaugurate the bus terminal at Madanpur Khadar and the cutting-edge administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar Depot, according to the announcement.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh noted that since the new government took office, around 2,184 electric buses have been incorporated into the DTC service. This latest addition brings the total fleet strength to nearly 6,300 buses, comprising 4,538 electric buses and 1,759 CNG buses.
Delhi has already earned the title of having the largest electric bus fleet nationwide, he added.
Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized, “Delhi is swiftly moving towards a clean, efficient, and future-oriented public transport system. The introduction of 200 electric buses, the initiation of the Delhi–Rohtak interstate service, and the establishment of critical infrastructure such as the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal and East Vinod Nagar administrative building showcase our dedication to sustainable mobility and enhancing the commuter experience.”

A structured and time-bound fleet enhancement program grounded in electric mobility is currently in progress. Under this initiative, Delhi's total bus fleet is expected to expand to nearly 14,000 buses by the fiscal year 2028–29, he mentioned.
To further enhance green regional connectivity, a new interstate electric bus service connecting Delhi and Rohtak will be initiated. This expands upon the DTC's existing interstate electric bus services linking Delhi to Baraut (Uttar Pradesh), Sonipat, Dharuhera, and Panipat (Haryana), as well as from Nanaksar (Delhi) to the Old Bus Stand in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), thereby fortifying sustainable regional mobility.
The Delhi–Rohtak route will function via ISBT Kashmere Gate and Peeragarhi Chowk, covering essential locations such as Tikri Border, Bahadurgarh, Rohad, Sampla, and Rohtak Bus Stand.
The service will be conducted under the Combined Reciprocal Common Transport Agreement among Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, beginning with an experimental deployment, the Minister added.
