New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) In a significant step towards creating a clean, green, and pollution-free Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially launched 200 brand new electric buses from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depot located at East Vinod Nagar on Friday.
This addition of 200 buses raises the total fleet in the city to over 6,300, which includes more than 4,500 electric buses, establishing Delhi as the city with the largest electric bus fleet in India, as stated in an official announcement.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government's goal to expand this number to nearly 14,000 buses by the year 2028-29. These modern buses come equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking, and features designed for the disabled.
During this event, the interstate e-bus service connecting Delhi and Rohtak was inaugurated, the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal was opened to the public, and the new administrative building at the depot was also unveiled, according to the statement.
She emphasized that the government is actively promoting electric mobility to ensure a pollution-free capital.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gupta remarked that both the nation and Delhi are consistently reaching new levels of development.
Attendees included Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, senior officials from the relevant departments, and other notable figures.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the aim of each initiative by the Delhi Government is to enhance connectivity, maintain a clean environment, and offer modern transport services to the citizens.
She noted that Friday marked a special occasion with the simultaneous inauguration of four key projects.
Gupta revealed that a significant portion of the new buses are 'Devi' buses, intended to improve transport services for residents by accessing remote and narrow areas.
Furthermore, the introduction of the Delhi-Rohtak interstate bus service will bolster regional connectivity. The Chief Minister referred to the opening of the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal as a vital facility for passengers, which will help organize transport services more effectively.
She also discussed the inauguration of the new administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar depot, stating that improved facilities will increase employee efficiency.
This building is outfitted with a biometric system and health check-up amenities to ensure that drivers are in a safe and healthy condition while operating buses, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents.
