New Delhi, Sep 22 (NationPress) On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially inaugurated the foundation of a multi-level, versatile DTC bus depot in Hari Nagar, pledging to rejuvenate the public transport system that has suffered losses amounting to Rs 65,000 crore. She aims to increase the fleet of e-buses from 3,000 to 6,000 by next year.

During her address, CM Gupta emphasized the government's dedication to transforming the transport landscape in the capital, which includes enhancements to the Metro and public bus services.

“A new EV policy will soon be launched,” she mentioned, highlighting the commitment to raise the DTC e-bus count to 6,000 to tackle air pollution concerns.

Regarding the new facility in Hari Nagar, she stated that it will feature state-of-the-art amenities for parking and charging over 400 electric buses. Essential services such as cleaning, office space, dormitories, and a commercial complex will also be included for the benefit of workers and officials.

“Previously, the depot could accommodate only 250 buses; now, its capacity will be doubled. Each bus will require around 40 minutes to charge, with approximately 84 charging stations available,” she explained.

CM Gupta remarked, “This initiative, part of the ‘Seva Pakhwada’, aims to reshape the capital’s transport system. The facility will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, ensuring it remains financially self-sustaining, alleviating any extra burden on the government.”

“This project will invigorate our vision for a Developed Delhi – Developed India by 2047 through the establishment of a smart, green, and accessible transport system,” she shared on X.

She assured more redevelopment projects for bus depots, the setup of additional charging stations across the city, and the revitalization of Inter-State Bus Terminals to boost revenue streams.

Reaffirming the BJP government’s commitment to restoring the financially troubled Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), she criticized previous administrations for neglecting the Corporation's fiscal health, leading to a staggering loss of Rs 65,000 crore—equivalent to Delhi’s annual budget.

Calling DTC the backbone of Delhi, CM Gupta criticized the former AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal for failing to address the DTC’s financial challenges.

She also highlighted the incorporation of solar energy in the new depot and the application of eco-friendly technology in its construction. The commercial center within will generate revenue, ensuring the entire complex’s financial independence.

“I urge officials to have the new depot ready by next Navratris, approximately 12 months from now,” she stated.

Commending DTC employee welfare, CM Gupta proposed that the residential area being constructed at Shadipur Bus Depot should include housing units for Corporation employees.
