Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) On April 17, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will officially launch 200 new electric buses alongside the new Delhi-Rohtak interstate electric bus service and various other public transportation initiatives, according to an official announcement.
The introduction of these e-buses signifies a major advancement in enhancing sustainable mobility and updating the region's transportation framework, the official highlighted.
Additionally, she will inaugurate the bus terminal located at Madanpur Khadar and the newly developed administrative facility at East Vinod Nagar Depot, as stated in the announcement.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh noted that since the new administration took office, approximately 2,184 electric buses have already been integrated into the DTC fleet. With this latest addition, the total fleet will approach around 6,300 buses, which includes 4,538 electric buses and 1,759 CNG buses.
Delhi has thus far earned the title of possessing the largest electric bus fleet in India, he remarked.
Pankaj Kumar Singh expressed, “Delhi is swiftly progressing towards a clean, efficient, and future-ready public transport system. The introduction of these 200 electric buses, the initiation of the Delhi–Rohtak interstate service, and the establishment of essential infrastructure like the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal and the administrative building at East Vinod Nagar showcase our dedication to sustainable mobility and enhanced commuter satisfaction.”
“Under the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, we are intensifying our efforts to create a modern, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation ecosystem for the residents of Delhi,” the Minister added.
These projects emphasize the ongoing commitment of the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government to develop a modern, sustainable, and commuter-focused public transport system throughout the city, he noted.
A well-structured and time-sensitive fleet expansion strategy centered on electric mobility is currently in progress. As part of this initiative, the total number of buses in Delhi is anticipated to grow to nearly 14,000 buses by the fiscal year 2028–29, he informed.
To further enhance green regional connectivity, a new interstate electric bus service linking Delhi and Rohtak will commence. This service builds on the already operational interstate electric bus routes from DTC that connect Delhi with Baraut (Uttar Pradesh), Sonipat, Dharuhera, and Panipat (Haryana), as well as from Nanaksar (Delhi) to Old Bus Stand, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), thereby promoting sustainable regional travel, he stated.
The Delhi–Rohtak route will function through ISBT Kashmere Gate and Peeragarhi Chowk, encompassing significant locations like Tikri Border, Bahadurgarh, Rohad, Sampla, and Rohtak Bus Stand.
This service will be managed under the Combined Reciprocal Common Transport Agreement involving Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, starting with a pilot phase, the Minister added.
